Sometimes I feel the need to pinch myself in the arm.  Especially when I find out that my position on the charts is way up there. Recently I reached the #10 spot on the Reverbnation Americana Chart for Nashville! And I know that you who are reading this are part of my success. Thank you!

Where Everyone Is Someone

It may sound simple and it may sound general, but everyone is someone in Nashville. What I mean is, that the chance of a VIP person being right next to you wherever you are is extremely big.  There are celebrities living here that have made this city their home because of the small town feel of it and they can walk around pretty much unnoticed if they want to and blend in with the crowd, because the crowd is so used to having someone of high dignity show up every now and then.  There are VIPs that can go unnoticed too, because they work behind the scenes and not in front of a camera or in the spotlight. So, be careful what you say, where you say it and how you say it, because Emmylou Harris' assistant or her road manager can sit right next to you. Not that anyone would have anything else but good things to say about her, but anyway.

All Kinds of Music in Nashville - But Country is My Kind of Music!

Nashville has the nickname Music City. That is because there is not only country music here.  There is an excellent Blues Club, a Symphonic Orchestra, Punk, Southern Rock and Hip Hop and everything in between. So, if you are a country music enthusiast or country artist, it pays off to do your research or ask someone that already has been here for a while BEFORE your visit. Or else you might end up having spent your own (or somebody else's) hard earned money on something like this:

That's Coast 2 Coast Live, a competition held ten times monthly in cities all over the US. It frequently stops by Nashville as well. If you ask me, I'd rather do something else, like singing a Hank Williams, Sr. song on a street corner, because country is my kind of music! :-)

Songwriting Inspiration

It is always easy to get inspired as a songwriter living in Nashville. One thing to do is to go to one of the Songwriting Sessions they have at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This time it was with Byron Hill, and if you are a country music fan, I know you have heard many of the songs he has written. Google/search Byron Hill on the web and see what you'll find ...

If you haven't searched/googled yet, here are some of the hits he has written: "Fool Hearted Memory" for George Strait, "Born Country" for Alabama, "High-Tech Redneck" for George Jones .... and there are more ... 

I do watch the TV series Nashville

I have not missed one episode. It's like it pulls me in into their lives ... the characters are chiseled out to perfection and I can't wait to see what happens next ....

One thing about last night's episode (season 3, episode 21): I half covered my face with my hands feeling sorry for Layla. She signed that contract without even reading it first ...

At The CMA Luncheon

Yesterday I had the honor of attending the CMA luncheon at the Country Music Hall of Fame with my husband and we were present at a historic moment. The Country Music Hall of Fame Inductees were presented and interviewed by Ms. Brenda Lee. 

At the table we sat at, family members of one inductee, the late A-team Nashville session player Grady Martin, were sitting. Look his name up on the web, you will be pleasantly surprised at the mark he has made in Country Music history. Brenda Lee interviewed his son.

The other inductees of the Class of 2015 are The Oak Ridge Boys and Jim Ed Brown & The Browns. All high class musicians and entertainers without question. P-E-R-I-O-D.

Growing Nashville

Nashville does not look like it did when I first came here, and it's not that long ago, only 6 years. There were no Omni Hotel, no Music City Center, no Country Music Hall of Fame extension with Hatch Show Print and the CMA Theater ... and those developments changed the scenery and the feel of downtown a lot! Those are pretty cool though  ...

One con is you have to re-learn to know your way around often here. There is constant progress and construction sites everywhere. Even New York Times included an article from the Nashville Scene about what has been, and is going on Gentrification is threatening Nashville's soul?

What is the best option for Nashville? Keeping on tearing down historic sites in the name of money or a perfect blend of old and new with the new built on unoccupied lots? I think the latter.

Post CMA Fest Thoughts

So, now I can say "been there - done that" to the CMA Fest experience. I felt the happy vibes from thousands and thousands of people enjoying themselves, heard the water bottle vendors shout out to our need for replenishing our fluids and heard music everywhere. I can clearly see why it is a great fan fest - the laid back and intimate feel there is to it for artists and fans to connect at different levels. A very interesting part to watch is the movement of 60,000 people walking over the bridge to LP field. If someone could put all that combined energy into use, it might power Nashville for a year. Or maybe that's exactly what it does (I know there is more to it than that of course, it's just figuratively speaking).

The artists play for free and it benefits the CMA Foundation's Keep The Music Playing.
